Stoke City’s Championship season got underway yesterday and it didn’t go at all as planned. They were soundly beaten away at Leeds United.
Leeds opened the scoring on 15 minutes through Klick. A mistake by Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland led to the home side’s second through Hernandez in the 46th minute. Afobe pulled one back for the Potters from the penalty spot early in the second half but Cooper grabbed a third for Leeds to secure all three points
A look back to Saturday – And Port Vale defeated Cambridge United in the opening game of their new EFL Division 2 season by 3 goals to Nil. Tom Pope scored twice and Ricky Miller scored on his league debut.
Leek Town drew 1-1 with Sheffield FC in their latest friendly in the build up to the start of the Evo-Stik Division 1 West season.

Hanley Town won 2-1 at Burscough FC in the Hallmark Securities Premier League. Thorpe scored 5 minutes from time to secure all 3 points.
Abbey Hulton won away at Stone Dominoes 2-1 in The Hallmark Securities Div 1 South League.
Leek CSOB thumped Walsall Phoenix away 5-0 in The Staffs Senior League with goals from Beckett, Pointon, Keats, Ellis and Edwards.
In the North Staffordshire and South Cheshire Cricket League Premier League – Ashcombe Park were defeated by Whitmore in Moorlands Sports Commentary game.
Ashcombe set Whitmore 161 to win – a target they reached with four wickets in hand.
Leek pulled off a great 4 wicket victory over Hem Heath.
In Division 1 – Cheadle beat Newcastle & Hartshill by 67 runs. Knypersley were victorious over Audley by one wicket.
In Div 3 Endon beat Hem Heath seconds by 112 runs.
Golf and England’s Georgia Hall won The Ladies Open Championship by 2 shots at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s on Sunday. It was her first victory in any tour event.
AND FINALLY – Staffordshire’s Adam Peaty won gold in the 100metre breaststroke at the European Championship in Glasgow. He smashed his own world record by 0.13 of a second in the process.
